Chapter 15

Natalie awoke refreshed. No dreams and no visitations contributed to a very restful night, except that she missed Michelle. She sighed and reminded herself that she would see Michelle tomorrow night, Christmas Eve.

She had given some thought whether or not to buy Lori and Shannon Christmas presents. She decided to err on the side of caution. When she went dress shopping for Lori and Shannon’s party last week, she picked up a two-tier swivel cheese and tapas board that would make serving appetizers a breeze.

Buying for Michelle was another matter, but after Michelle had pulled her from the ditch, then watched over her the night she fainted, she decided that if she bought something it could be a combination Christmas and Thank You gift. She ordered a beautiful gold Mindful Breathing Necklace with a sturdy gold chain. It was supposed to arrive today.

Bouncing down the stairs, she wished Michelle were here with her while she laid out the entire story of what Aunt Grace had found and what she and Michelle had discovered. Just as she hit the bottom stair, the front door opened and in walked Michelle. She ran to her, hugged her, kissed her, and asked what she was doing here.

“What, you don’t want me to be here?” Michelle waited with a straight face.

“Of course, I do. I was just wishing you were here with me.”

“Then your wish is my command, or so it seems,” laughed Michelle.

“How did you know what time to come?”

“Must have been ESP.” She snickered.

“I don’t think so. They called you, didn’t they?”

“Maybe. Okay honey, they did. Now will you let go of me so I can get my boots off?”

“Fine, if I must, but as soon as you are finished, I’m grabbing you again. Got that?” Natalie was positively delighted to see Michelle and was bubbling over with fervor.

“Oh, I got it and I definitely want it!” As soon as Michelle’s boots were off, she reached for Natalie, just as the apartment door opened, her plans to kiss Natalie evaporating into the ethers.

“I thought I heard the two of you giggling out here. Come on, breakfast is ready.” Lori pivoted on her heel and led the way in.

Shannon greeted them as she was putting out a hearty Amish casserole. “Hello ladies. How is everything this morning?”

Both Michelle and Natalie answered “good” simultaneously.

Shannon suggested that they all eat before her breakfast creations cooled off. No one disagreed. Shannon was an excellent cook. When they were finished, they cleared the plates and returned to the table with fresh coffee.

“We understand that you are ready to spill the beans about what Grace was up to and what the two of you have been doing.” Lori crossed her arms feigning impatience.

Michelle took Natalie’s hand and told her to go ahead and tell them everything. Natalie began by systematically recounting what she found in the attic, the substance of the dreams, and the two visitations she had experienced. When Natalie finished recounting the second visitation, Michelle validated everything that Natalie said.
